Mary Annette "Wood" Kubicek, a beloved mother, grandmother, stepmother, and friend, passed away on January 17, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on February 19, 1949, in Jones, Oklahoma to Howard “Wayne” and Erma Wood. She lived her entire life in this close-knit community, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength.
She was a mother to Mark Abel and Amy Gray. On February 19, 1992, Mary married Greg Kubicek, blending their families with love and devotion. Through this marriage, she welcomed two stepchildren, Kathryn Ryals and Troy Kubicek, and became a stepmother to them.
Mary was a lifelong resident of Jones, Oklahoma, and throughout her life, she made a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. Whether through her warm smile, her love of her family or her generous spirit, Mary’s presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In her younger years, she loved working with ceramics and even owned her own ceramic shop to share her passion with others. She has always loved planting flowers and learning all she could about them. She would spend hours walking around outside looking at her flowers and tending to them. She worked for the Town of Jones for many years. She enjoyed being able to help people in the town.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Erma Wood, son Mark Abel, and brothers Rick and Bill Wood. She is survived by her husband, Greg Kubicek; daughter Amy Gray; Mark’s wife Amanda Abel; grandchildren, Chloe Abel, Grace Abel, Ethan Gray, and Ella Gray; stepchildren, Kathryn Ryals and Troy Kubicek; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends who will carry on her memory.
We want to celebrate Mary’s life and the incredible impact she had on so many. Her love and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
