Duane Melvin Dear, a proud U.S. Army veteran and dedicated law enforcement officer, passed away on March 20, 2025, at the age of 80. Duane was born on February 17, 1945, and spent much of his life serving his country and his community with unwavering dedication.
Duane proudly served in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1970. He was also a charter member of the Combat Veterans of America, a time that shaped his character and instilled in him a lifelong commitment to service. After his military career, Duane transitioned into law enforcement, working with both the Oklahoma City Police Department and the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office. His time in law enforcement was marked by a steadfast commitment to justice and the safety of others.
Beyond his professional achievements, Duane had a deep love for ranching and the open road. He found peace and freedom on the family ranch and enjoyed the thrill of long motorcycle rides, embracing life with a spirit of adventure and a zest for the world around him.
Duane will be remembered for his strength, integrity, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his service and kindness.
Duane is survived by his wife, Jane; his son, Luke; daughter, Angela; stepdaughter, Monica; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Russell, and sister, Shirley.
A Memorial Graveside Service will take place on April 11, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Elmwood Cemetery in Choctaw, Oklahoma.
His journey ends here, but his spirit rides on
