Bonnie Lou Wheeler, age 79, Choctaw, Oklahoma passed away on March 8, 2025.
Bonnie was born December 21, 1945 in Portland, Michigan to Clifford and Hannah Petersen. She was married to Gordon Wheeler on December 21, 1962 in Lakeview, Michigan.
Bonnie was a beautician for over 20 years. However, her best work was as a mother to her four children, Brenda, Christopher, Matthew, and Vaughn. Bonnie was very active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She served as president of Post 9969 and Post 7192 for over 25 years. She was the VFW Auxiliary Department president in 2001-2002. She also served as the VFW Auxiliary National Council member representing Oklahoma and Arkansas.
In 2020 Bonnie and her husband Gordon were selected as the Oklahoma Veterans Volunteer Family of the Year by the Oklahoma Veterans' Council.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Hannah Petersen; sisters Barbara Large, Diane Harnish, Mary Ruthruff; brothers Phillip Petersen, Gary Petersen; and son Vaughn Wheeler.
Bonnie is survived by her husband Gordon; daughter Brenda Wheeler Trimble (Steve) Yukon, OK; son Christopher (Carol) Midwest City, OK; son Matthew Wheeler (Darlene) Kingsland, GA; brother David Petersen, Six Lakes, MI; brother Kim Petersen (Teresa) Greenville, MI; sister Joyce Hilton, Summerfield, FL; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
