Alfred Earl Panek, 93, of Choctaw, OK passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025. He was born in Bakerton, Pennsylvania on January 5, 1932 where he lived until he joined the United States Air Force proudly serving for 22 years. He then worked at Tinker Air Force Base on aircrafts.
Alfred was blessed with fifty plus years with his wife, Jesse Broom, of Hennepin, OK. Together they owned and operated the “J & A Bar”, a local haunt in Midwest City in the 1960’s. He then built Panek’s “Root N’ Scoot” in 1976, and added the convenience store two years later. It is located at 29th and Indian Meridian where his daughter Lisa and son-in-law Matt Dowd still operate a successful business.
Alfred adored telling stories of his military time spent in Greece, where he once “rubbed elbows” with Aristotle Onassis and Jane Mansfield. He enjoyed going to the lake, fishing and hanging out on the water.
Alfred was passionate about his ten-cre farm and was working on his tractor days before his passing. He also enjoyed his Vegas trips with stepson Leon Woods and once did 125 mph to get to the airport on time for the flight! Later in life he would meet up with Leon and his wife, Barbara for dinner and then he would hope for a big payout.
Alfred had a long, rich life and will be greatly missed because he was thought of by many as a father figure.
